Though physically based in Auckland, New Zealand, artist and illustrator Vivien Masters really alternates between living in Rococo France and Victorian England.

With her figurative and feminine style she explores themes of artifice, female identity, contemporary alternative culture and the surreal.

Her delicately detailed paintings and drawings are all created by hand in her city studio. She works with pencils, ink, watercolour and acrylic paint on either hot-pressed paper or hand-strectched canvas.

As well as making her own art, Vivien works as a freelance illustrator. After starting her small business Vivien Masters Art & Illustration earlier this year (2011), Vivien has been busy creating custom works of art for both private and commercial clients. Recent projects range from individual tattoo designs and CD cover art to creating illustrations and banner designs for websites.

Though new to the world of children's illustration Vivien is currently working on a number of projects, including the design and illustration of educational resources.

Vivien Masters received a BVA (Bachelor of Visual Arts) in 2009 from the Auckland University of Technology in Auckland. Her work has been exhibited in New Zealand and Australia.
